Astana will host the finals of Google’s hackathon series on September 15, bringing together top development teams from Central Asia and the Caucasus. The Build With AI for Sustainable Growth initiative aims to tackle challenges in sustainable development. Co-implemented by StrategEast, Google, and USAID’s Future Growth in March, the initiative included 27 workshops engaging 900 developers.
The program featured hackathons and workshops for technical specialists, leveraging Google’s AI tools powered by the advanced large language model (LLM) Gemini. Issues addressed in the hackathon encompass improving air and water quality, mitigating pollution-related health issues, addressing natural habitat degradation and deforestation, water management, agriculture, and food security.
Finalists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia will compete for a prize fund: $5,000 for first place, $2,500 for second place, and $500 for third place.
The main eligibility criteria require candidates to be based in the Caucasus or Central Asia and demonstrate a passion for sustainable development goals. The application deadline is August 15, 2024.
